eating a carrot

Hi there! I’m Jane D Webbs, and I have created this simple site with one purpose in mind: to help people like me with adjusting to a gluten-free diet. Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or have been dealing with celiac, gluten intolerances, DH or alike for years – know that I completely understand what you’re going though, and I’m here to support you.

My story is probably very similar to yours. For a few years, I had very random symptoms and health issues that couldn’t be explained like joint pain, digestion issues, vitamin deficiencies, brain fog, and the list goes on… My doctor was baffled and couldn’t help much apart from making sure I was getting supplements for the deficiencies. Then one day I decided to have meat-free chicken nuggets – the fake meat kind. I soon regretted that decision. A few hours later I was covered in a rash – the itchiest and most debilitating rash I had ever experienced. Turns out the main ingredient in the fake nuggets was… yep, you guessed it right: gluten. Well, that explained a lot. I realized that what I was experiencing was a gluten rash aka dermatitis herpetiformis or DH. Thanks to the pandemic, I found out that the next appointment with my dermatologist was in two weeks. Two weeks?! The itching was so extreme I couldn’t function – I kid you not, I seriously considered jumping off a cliff! Random fact, as I was researching the gluten rash, I read somewhere that before DH was discovered to be caused by gluten, people would literally commit suicide due to lack of relief! I remember thinking to myself that in two weeks I could be one of those people if I don’t do something to get rid of this horrifying rash. So I got to work. I tried all sorts of ointments, from organic jojoba oil to over the counter anti-itch ointments – no relief! I then had an epiphany – I realized that my issue originated from ingesting a huge amount of gluten and that no ointment was going to help me unless I healed my stomach first. Lo and behold, it helped! I got rid of my rash by using natural remedies. If you’re dealing with the gluten rash, you can read about my experience in my post: how I got rid of the gluten rash. I did eventually manage to see my dermatologist and also my GI doctor and well… the rest is history. I now life a happy and healthy gluten-free lifestyle.

But when I first started on this journey, it wasn’t easy. I soon realized that I wasn’t going to be able to live a normal life anymore. Pizza for dinner? No, can’t do. Chinese? Nope, soy sauce has gluten. Burgers? Only if they have a gluten-free bun… not to mention cookies, and cakes, and all the other goodies: all one big NOPE – can’t have any of that either. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about. Gluten is apparently in every single food that you have ever enjoyed. The transition to gluten-free products and life sure wasn’t easy, and I tirelessly searched online for some help and guidance. I promised myself that once I felt better I would put together a site and create resources to help others like me navigate through the gluten-free lifestyle transition. Yes, I call it a lifestyle change because when you’re gluten-free your whole life changes, not just your diet. I hope this site brings you some relief, help, and peace as you deal with your gluten-free transition. So go ahead, snack on my posts and enjoy the read!

Yours Truly,

Jane D Webbs
